Mission Statement
To enable athletes of all levels of ability to achieve their own aspirations in their chosen athletic activity, exemplifying good moral and sporting values, and thereby promoting in Maltese society the concept of Athletics as a Way of Life
Jonathan Balzan has once again triumphed, ensuring a long streak of wins in Maltese road races this year. This was the first edition with 118 finishers, which is very encouraging and promises well for future editions.
Due to our constant urge to upgrade our events, St. Patrick's A.C. are in for some interesting changes in the coming months.
We pride ourselves in being the only athletics club in Malta in organising THREE road-races through the calendar. One of the most anticipated races is the one held on Friday evening, at B'Buga in the July.
We have received various comments that since it is an 'evening' race it was not as convenient for athletes and a 'morning' one. Moreover, the route was increasingly becoming dangerous to the heavy traffic in B'Buga on Friday evening.
Therefore, we looked into the possibility of changing both the schedule and the route to offer all of you a better event and a safer and more enjoyable one.
Thus it has been decided that the 'summer' race by St. Patrick's A.C. will be held on SUNDAY 4th JULY AT MARSASCALA, starting at 8am. The race will go by the official name of 47-SUMMER NIGHTS MARSASCALA 10K.
Our younger athletes did exceptionally well yesterday in the International Track & Field Meeting. They faced a strong opposition from various international athletes but they did us proud with great performances and some outstanding results!
A huge well done to them and to Rose Tabone, or greatly-dedicated junior coach who deserves a big prosit for here determination, commitment and dedication!
It is said that the true test of a champion's character lies not in how he acts when successful but rather in how he reacts to a setback. If that is the case then Jonathan Balzan should not fear for his credentials. Faced by a similar mishap as the one that befel Balzan at the Malta Marathon when he was accidentally led off course, other lesser athletes might have given up or at least reconsidered their career. For Balzan, however, that was not really an option, or it wasn't for a long time.
"For a brief moment, I wanted to hang up my boots. I didn't know what
hit me and some people's comments hurt me. But I realised that I had to
put it behind me as I still had a lot to offer."
Promoting sport as a way of life has long been held as St. Patrick's AC main objective. The club isn't simply about winning races - important as this undoubtedly is - but it also wants to attract people to sport irrespective of their abilities. It is this philosophy that has seen it grow into the biggest athletics club on the island.
